Rick L. Wilson
Dr. Rick L. Wilson is presently the W. Paul Miller Professor of Business Administration, a Professor of Management Science and Information Systems (MSIS) and the department head of the MSIS Department in the Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University. Prior to joining the faculty at OSU, Dr. Wilson worked at U S WEST, holding various project management and director roles in their information systems group.
Dr. Wilson is the author or co-author of over 100 papers that have appeared in journals, books, proceeding and/or presentations around the world. His areas of research include neural networks and data mining, sports and operations research, and on-line student performance. He is most well known for his research in college football rankings and overtime strategies, being a frequent guest on radio shows around the country to debate both topics.
Dr. Wilson has won numerous teaching awards for his innovative and unique teaching approach to difficult quantitative classes. In the recent past he has been named the 2006 Greiner Graduate Teaching Award recipient, the 2007 and 2009 MBA Faculty of the Year award, and the 2010 recipient of the Chandler-Frates and Reitz Teaching Award at OSU.
This presentation will take a broad look at the use of knowledge analytic tools and techniques in today’s ‘post-Moneyball’ sports world. The author (and the attendees) will speculate on what it all means for the owners, participants and fans now and into the future.
